In my experience, Egyptians love when you try to speak their language. Even if you aren’t pronouncing the words exactly right, they’ll appreciate the effort. Its also quite helpful when going shopping or trying to communicate with taxi drivers. I’ve learned quite a bit from this book that was given to me by Mostafa. It’s useful and easy to understand. It’s also quite affordable on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Egyptian-Arabic-Lonely-Planet-Phrasebooks/dp/174059391X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392042767&sr=8-1&keywords=lonely+planet+egyptian+arabic+phrasebook
I have this neat little book. My husband and MIL get a good chuckle when I try to say something but they can see I am trying.
Jess, I have learned quite a bit from the book. I probably have learned more by living here and hearing the language all day but its helpful to keep this book in my purse and pull it out when I can’t speak to the taxi driver or the shop keeper. Keep making them giggle girl!!
